Auto Squeal site was formed to address the urgent needs of the American Auto Industry and its hard working professionals in order to face the global economic threat posed by foreign competitors.

We believe that our American company's culture has to adapt to changes to better respond to foreign global competition. Today, our global competitors are putting tremendous pressure on our domestic industry!  It is time to wake up and respond to these threats!

We could not longer afford to ignore the current economic and social situation. We must act now, embrace change so we could assure a bright future for our young generations to come.

It was a very sad story to see how things rapidly deteriorated within the American Auto Industry and nobody did anything to prevent it! What a shame! However, as we well know, there has been tremendous internal and external political climate pressure and Wall Street economic and financial factors that contributed the auto industry collapse!

In the same time frame, GM styling and vehicle overall quality have significantly improved. Meantime, Ford has been better off financially than GM and Chrysler...

Until recently, Chrysler used to have the best vehicle styling in the world! What happened in the last few years with its vehicle styling and customer appeal? Vehicles looked boxy with sharp corners and poor appearance, they look ridiculous!

Buyers were looking for nice styling with aero-dynamic looks, (low CDs, lower weight) which could provide better fuel economy and what did they get? To name a few, they got the Caliber, Compass, Patriot, Liberty and Commander (boxy appearance!).

Are these vehicles appealing to the customers? I don't think so! How about quality? They made good strides toward it, but wasn't good enough to improve overall quality ratings and change customer perception about Chrysler quality...Another aspect was the economy with its industry slump and high oil prices!

A main contributor to less success was the company aggressive MCM (Material Cost Management) savings policy which saved some money per vehicle to company, but it depleted vehicles sales of popular options and ruined customers’ confidence.

Overall, it caused sales down fall and increased vehicles inventory…
What do we recommend?

  • I would like to see a quicker response with vehicles to the market; I like to see a short & long term strategy to get the consumers back to buy Chrysler vehicles.
  • I would also like to see vehicle improved styling and higher quality and reliability to match Toyota and Honda's.
  • I would recommend some work to improve consumer’s confidence, to boost up Chrysler vehicles sales. Innovation was also one of company's strengths in the past! What happened to it? Company needs more ideas and new solutions.
  • Purchasing agents (buyers of materials) are mostly degreed in economics and finances, but lagging of engineering knowledge. The competitors have their sales groups filled with engineers with degrees in economics. Their decisions are crucial in allocating business to the best quality suppliers.
  • Engineering job rotation programs have to be enriched to help the candidates to acquire a broader view and knowledge of company business.
  • Two-three years mandatory Engineering Residency Program in Chrysler plants must be strengthen to promote the pool of talented engineers with deep knowledge of plant process and quality tools applications.
  • Hire back per Diem the current retirees who are willing to help and participate in training the young ones on the job.
  • Promotions should be awarded through selecting the best individual with the most technical expertise and education background and not promoting politicians nor public speakers, who unfortunately are not the best qualified for the job..."
The bottom line is the whole Business Corporate Culture has to change!

Let's help the American Auto Industry survive and regain its competitive edge!
